The Song of the Feathered Serpent

Overview

Across a fantasy world inspired by the civilizations of the 14th–19th centuries, empires rise beneath the gaze of ancient and increasingly hungry gods. A foreign expedition discovers Mesozaca — a mythic continent of jungle kingdoms, desert tribes, and forgotten monsters — and becomes entangled in a war between the Aztoc Empire, northern rebels, and the forces of the Imperium of Lux. Meanwhile, an exiled prince searches for the Sacred Instruments needed to awaken the sleeping god Xaltemoc and restore the sun from the supernatural shadow called the Endless Night.

Those Who Speak With Fire

A Novella

A mother. A marked child. A god stirring in his sleep beneath the mountain.

When Cholla's three-year-old son falls into a sleep no remedy can break, she does the only thing she can. She straps him to her chest, takes her spear and her blade, and walks into the Xalpan Desert alone.

The desert is not empty.

Red-eyed coyotes speak in voices older than the stars. Fires go out and return transformed. And the hermit Nachtu has been waiting at the edge of the dunes for forty years, because he already knows what Cholla's son is meant to become.
